• BEYOND THE MOUNTAINS OF ACROCERO

SYNOPSIS

Eristina has just turned 19 when she decides to leave her small village in northern Albania by boat alone. The film sensitively and thoroughly portrays her adolescence and the complex family dynamics over four decisive years, culminating in her determination to embark on a journey in search of a man she has never met.

The people, objects, and spaces she leaves behind gradually transform into the deepest and most evocative essence of her youth: a vibrant Albanian garden that remains vivid in her memory, now intertwined with the harsh realities of a new life thousands of miles away.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY

LAURA HABY

Laura Haby was born in Alsace, France, in 1988. Her first artistic form of expression was dance, before beginning her studies at the Academy of Art, where she discovered painting and video. The third stage of her apprenticeship led Haby to Fresnoy, and in 2017 she made her first films. With a documentary approach—whether based on fact or not—her films are characterized by a subtle blend of apocalypse and love: on the one hand, inexplicable phenomena and funeral eulogies; on the other, the narrators’ desire and their attempts at seduction. Haby gives voice to intimate conflicts within her space of social representation to understand how human beings develop and transform. According to her, conversation is an art form, and vulnerability is a virtue for field researchers.

In addition to group exhibitions at contemporary art centers such as Le MAGASIN in Grenoble, the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, and l’Espace Croisé in Roubaix, her films have been screened at festivals such as the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, Côté-Court, FID Marseille, Les rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid at the Palais de Tokyo, at Villa Medici in Rome, and also in Valencia, Spain, at the Mr. Pink gallery as part of the screenings-screens-digital video creation series.

Business Doc Europe

“Un documental ensayístico sobre la violencia doméstica profundamente personal y a la vez universal.”

International Cinephile Society

“Un relato íntimo de una mente atormentada, sin que nunca sea intrusivo”
